Becca Waite & Bailey Boo

Growing up there has always been dogs at our house and as a kid I always wanted my own dog.  My parents always said “when you have a house of your own, you can have whatever pets you want”. With university nearly finished I kept reminding myself of this statement and regularly visited the RSPCA and other Rescue Centres. I originally wanted to get a bitch that was about 6 months to a year old and a medium size dog.

One day I happened to be driving past the Blue Cross at Kimpton in Hertfordshire and decided to go in for a look.  Bailey was the last puppy (8 weeks old) left in a Collie Cross Labrador litter that someone had taken in.  All his brothers and sisters had found homes but he was the last one as they were concerned that he may have breathing trouble due to a “funny” nose.  However as soon as I saw him I fell in love with him and within two weeks he was living at home.  Bailey was a very easy puppy and just loved being around people.  He went to a local kennels for puppy training and after that Obedience.  Bailey, like many Collies was very quick to learn his basic commands and was soon attracted to the equipment in the field, frequently running in and out of the tunnels.  Bailey did a little bit of fun agility when he was one year old but unfortunately seriously damaged the ligaments around his hock so was not able to do anything for a long time.

In the summer of 2006 I decided that I wanted to introduce him to Agility again, but this time proper agility.  Bailey has now been training for just over a year and this is his first season of competition.  We train at Rascals Agility in Milton Keynes with Colin and Toni Johnson and also at Watford Agility.

We have made an excellent start to our first season/steep learning curve and have

achieved a lot more than we expected.  Bailey has recently qualified for the First Contact Final and is ranked quite high in the Agility Voice and BAA Leagues.  Bailey has also taken part in some UK Agility Competition where he is now competing in the Novice classes. We have gained a number of high places but have yet to achieve the magical first to move us into Grade 2. Fingers Crossed!!  Unfortunately we are having to have some time out at the moment as I have just had an ankle joint repair operation; however we are looking to come back in style!! (hopefully if we can remember what to do)

Bailey is a very loving and sensitive dog who always wants to please, this however has sometimes be a hinder when he sulks if he doesn’t understand what is being asked (or I’m not explaining it properly!)  Bailey loves playing with balls, splashing in water and catching squirrels. He is often referred to as the “looney” dog who can jump about 6 foot up a tree trying to catch squirrels!!
